Harry Potter: Wizards Unite developer, Niantic, has been teasing a feature called Adventure Sync for months. Adventure Sync came to another game of theirs, Pokémon Go, in Fall 2018. In Pokemon Go, Adventure Sync allows trainers to hatch their eggs and get candy from their buddy Pokémon, even when the app is not launched on their phones. It does this by syncing with the GPS and Health Kit (iPhone) in their phones. In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Adventure Sync will allow wizards to get credit toward unlocking their Portkey Portmanteaus and meeting their Daily Achievements.

This massive update (2.9.0 on both iPhone and Android) will also bring other changes. Unsurprisingly, many of these changes have to do with Portmanteaus. Your inventory has increased by 2, allowing you to now carry 10 Portmanteaus at one time. This means that walking, even while not on your phone, can work toward unlocking 10 Portmanteaus at once if you invest the keys. For a more in depth list of changes, please read the official Harry Potter: Wizards Unite blog post. It should be noted that, while much wished for, Pokémon Go has never made it possible for trainers to obtain a second Infinite Incubator, the equivalent of the Gold Key.

How to Enable Adventure Sync on the iPhone

Before starting trying to enable this exciting new feature, be sure that you have updated Harry Potter: Wizards Unite to at least version 2.9.0. After updating, it won’t hurt to force quit the app then launch it again. The first time you open the game after updating, there will be a prompt asking you to enable Adventure Sync to help unlock Portkey Portmanteaus faster and meet your Daily Achievements.

If you decide to turn it on, you are met with another prompt with instructions on how to enable this feature. It’s a little involved as it requires you to change some of the settings in the Settings app, and the prompt isn’t quite clear on what this will take.

If you hit Enable, a third prompt will come up asking you to allow GPS Always and Health App permissions. This will grant Harry Potter: Wizards Unite to always have access to your phone’s GPS and give it insights into the Health App data.

This is where it gets a little confusing. If you hit Allow, you’d assume you’re good to go. Not quite yet. At this point, open your Suitcase (middle button on the bottom of your screen) then go to the settings (the gears in the top left). Between Camera and Advanced, there will be a new section, Adventure Sync, with just one setting, effectively to enable it or not. Turn that switch on, as the dialogs did not do that for you. Now, you’ll have to go to your phone’s Settings app to follow the steps listed earlier. You’ll find Harry Potter: Wizards Unite near the bottom, listed in your Settings app as Wizards Unite. Click on that, then Location, then set to Always. After setting that, back out to the main Settings screen and go to Privacy. Tap on Health, then Wizards Unite, then Turn All Categories On. If you did not go to the settings within the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite app to turn on Adventure Sync, it will not be listed as an app on the Health screen.

Good luck going forth and unlocking more Portmanteaus. If you missed past events, now is your chance to visit those environments. Enjoy your adventures!

Thank you for sharing this. I was wondering why it wasn’t working after I simply followed the prompts on the Wizards Unite app. Now it works!
