While rumors have been swirling for quite some time about Pokémon Go creator, Niantic, developing a similar augmented reality mobile game for the wizarding world of Harry Potter, we did not get confirmation until late 2017. We didn’t get our first looks until today when the official @HPWizardsUnite Twitter account called all wizards.

When we follow the link in the tweet, we are treated to a video notifying us that this information is officially Muggle-proof as well as the official announcement.

The Story

We are told that artifacts, creatures, people, and memories have appeared in the Muggle world. It’ll take wizards near and far to solve this mystery, The Calamity, and to find and return these “Foundables.” Wizards will begin as new recruits for the Statute of Secrecy Task Force. While Pokémon Go did not have much of a story until research tasks were added to the game almost 2 years after release, Ingress, Niantic’s first location-based game, has had a bit of a story since its birth.

Playing Together

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite looks like it may very well launch with player vs player functionality. Fortresses, where wizards can test their skills against other wizards in real-time, will be found across the map. At these Fortresses, you will also fight foes. So far, they have revealed Death Eaters and Dementors as potential enemies. It recommends gathering your friends, so we might see this feature as something similar to raids in Pokémon go where players team up to battle and catch strong Pokémon, including legendary Pokémon, such as Mewtwo.

You will be able to train and develop your skills as a wizard through different mentors that will train you in different disciplines.
